Weird behavior in OS BigSur

After many months of poor battery life, my work finally upgraded my Mac. I just installed 1Password for Mac and added the extension to my Firefox browser. I can see in the top right hand corner within Firefox the 1PW app. However, when I try to ask Firefox to autofill my password from the system tray (next to the date and time), it says that I don't have the extension installed and to install it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled this twice, but for some reason it continues to think that I don't have it.

Here is a screen recording https://youtu.be/IFITiJ5KEjs

Congratulations on the new Mac. The extension you have installed in your browser is 1Password X. It does not integrate directly with the Mac app. It's capable of working independently. With that said, the 1Password helper at the top our your screen has no knowledge of the 1Password X extension. That is why you see the message to add the extension. You mentioned you always used the helper in the menu bar. If you want that functionality back, remove the existing extension and install the classic version of our extension, which will also provide Touch ID support for unlocking the extension.

    Download the classic extension.

@ag_tommy Thanks for the quick reply. Are there any downsides/upsides to classic vs 1PW X?

I was a long hold out making a move to 1Password X. In the end, I love the ability to use it. I do my editing in the Mac app as needed and work with 1Password X for my filling.

We have a blog post about 1Password X which may be of benefit. This community topic may be just as helpful: 1Password for Mac vs. 1Password X what's the difference?

Thanks @ag_tommy. I've just installed the classic extension because I like being able to unlock via Apple Watch and fill with touch ID. Will 1Password X ever have any Touch ID capabilities? I'm guessing the answer is no, right?

  • @jkav

It previously was able to use Touch ID, until the feature (Desktop App Integration) was removed for a code update. So, I am very hopeful the team can work some magic and bring it back better than before.

Got it, thanks again. Thinking I'm going to stick with the classic version.

Keep an eye on the community/forum. I am sure when it reappears we will make a posting here. We are just as anxious to see it come back. You're welcome.
