QR code scanning issues on Mac Catalina. How do I uninstall and reinstall 1Password safely?

I see that the forums have been discussing the issue of having the QR scanner greyed out because of permission issues. I am using Mac Catalina and my 1Password is Ver 7.7.

I am not really inclined to reinstall 1Password because I fear I might lose data. (How do we know that all the data is synced anyway before we reinstall?)

[Q1] Is there a non invasive method that is to quit and start 1password and unlocking the screen recording permissions? I feel silly using my iPad as a document holder whiist using the front facing camera to do the QR code scanning.

[Q2] On the theme of backups, how do we also know if our 1 Passwords are safely backed up? Today I have been using 1Password quite extensively and note that the application freezes many times. Do I need to have a paper notebook handy to note the changes?

[Q3] How do I know if my sync type is with 1Password and not iCloud?

Kind regards.

    1. Look for our helper in the menu bar near the WiFi indicator and the clock. Right-click on the helper and select quit 1Password completely. Your data is maintained outside of the application. Replacing the application will have no consequences to your data. * DO NOT use an app cleaner to remove the application. They have been known to remove user's data accidentally because they get overzealous in the cleanup.

    2. If you are using a membership, log in to 1Password.com and verify your data is present. If you are using a standalone setup, check the backups tab in 1Password preferences. Memberships are backed up automatically.

    3. iCloud would be a standalone setup. 1Password would be a membership. Open 1Password and visit the accounts tab. Do you see an account listed? If not, you likely have a standalone setup. If so, do you see a sync tab, open it and check where your data is being synced to on the right-hand side.

The scanner issue is more likely easily addressed. If the background color is grey, that would mean you are using the Mac App Store version. It is no longer possible for the Mac App Store version of 1Password to look at your screen for QR codes. Instead, you would need to download 1Password directly from us. App Store apps are only allowed to use the Screen Recording permission for actual screen recording applications, not for reading QR codes.

Switch to the website version of 1Password.
