Why does Chrome extension require authentication

I have the Mac desktop 1Password. I've authenticated.
Safari and Firefox seem to know that.

Brave, Chrome, Edge all want me to type in my password (how gauche! they don't even accept fingerprint or watch)

Seriously, I'd be happy if they just recognized I've already authenticated via the app.

1Password Version: 1Password 7 Version 7.7 (70700016) Mac App Store
Extension Version: Password – Password Manager Size: 11.0 MB Version: 1 . 2 3
OS Version: 11.1.2

The extension you have installed in your browser is likely the newer version of our 1Password extension. It does not integrate directly with the Mac app. It's capable of working independently. With that being the case, you would need to authenticate to it to make use of it.

What was formerly 1Password X had the Desktop App Integration feature removed late last year for a code update. Presently there is no communication between the app and the newer extension.

You can find out about what the future holds from a post by one of our founders over here.

    • Safari does communicate with the desktop app, and Firefox likely has the classic version of our extension installed. (4.7.5.90)
