I did a fresh install of 1password + chrome extension on my new macbook and it seems like CMD + \ shortcut doesn't work anymore in Chrome. I'm 100% sure that for the last 3 years I was using it on my another macbook.
In extension settings I see this setting, but I cannot set CMD + \ there.

because when I hit this combination, desktop app is called:

And it says that I should install extension, which I already have.

Can I configure somehow to use CMD + \ in Chrome?

1Password Version: 1Password 7 Version 7.7 (70700016) Mac App Store
Extension Version: version 1.23.0
OS Version: 10.15.7
Sync Type: Not Provided

    Hey @VSheyanov ,

You are expecting 1Password Classic's behavior, but have installed 1Password in the browser instead.

While we do recommend 1Password in the browser over the old Classic extension, here are the pros and cons of each so you can make an educated decision on which one you'd like:

    • 1Password in the browser provides a new and improved autofilling experience by showing up automatically inside usernames/password fields when you visit a login page, making it super easy to autofill or save new logins.
    • 1Password in the browser is a standalone version that does not connect to the 1Password desktop app (yet! we're working on it :) ) but instead works directly with your 1Password.com account's vaults, so your workflow can start and end in the browser without having to deal with the desktop app or mini.
    • It has its own keyboard shortcut - CMD+SHIFT+X, or you can simply click the little 1Password icon on the top right corner of your browser to unlock it once, then it will show up wherever you need it on its own. No need for CMD+\ anymore.
    • 1Password Classic does connect to the desktop app and works with CMD+\ , but does not show up on its own inside fields and suggests autofilling or other proper actions.

I hope that clarifies the situation :)

Plus, one is on palliative care while the other is young and fresh and "the way forward."

Speaking of which, what will happen with Safari? Will the desktop app still provide 1Password functionality there without having to install a separate browser extension? Or will Safari be seeing 1Password in the Browser coming its way like the other browsers?

    Hey @williakz ,

Apple made some changes to Safari since version 13, and made it so it is no longer possible to install extensions separately. If you want an extension - you gotta install the desktop app of said extension. Therefor when you install the desktop app of 1Password, it will automatically install the relevant extension for you. :)

We've also added "1Password in the browser's" interface to the Safari extension recently, so you get the same inline menu and suggestions inside username/password fields. The experience is quite identical to what you see in other browsers now.

Thanks for the info, @ag_yaron. I was wondering how you folks would handle Safari going forward as 1Password for the Browser gains focus, functionality, and independence. If I understand you correctly, it could soon be the case that only the need for 1P in Safari requires the desktop app to be installed and run at all, at least for basic operations.

Yes, that is currently what is happening.
Safari is still very much relevant and we have no plans of leaving it behind :)

Well this sucks. I'm experiencing the same issue. Fresh build, and the current 1Password UI pushed me to get the chrome / Brave extension. I don't like it. I think it sucks, tbh. I think the graphical elements get in the way and look clunky (and require mouse operations, which power users will always prefer keyboard). So now I try to uninstall the browser extension and can't use the Ctrl + \ shortcut to auto fill passwords. Right clicking also doesn't show 1Password. What gives? Please don't prioritize inferior products because they are "the way forward" when it comes at the detriment of user experience from your trusted fan base.

Oh, and can someone tell me how to restore the desktop native keyboard shortcut? Pls?
