Browser window not opening
Steps to produce
- Set Brave (or chrome) as the default web browser for Mac.
- Minimize all browser windows
- Click on the 1Password icon on the menu bar.
- Select a password entry.
- Click the GO button.
Expected behavior
I expected a Brave (or chrome) browser window would open with the URL of the password entry I had selected and fill in the username and password. (This is what happens when Safari is the default web browser)
Actual behavior
- The 1Password mini window blinked off and back on.
- The name on the menu bar switched from Finder to Brave.
Additional information
It has been like this for the past few releases.
If I close the Brave browser with cmd-Q instead of minimizing the windows it works.

Hey @MarkVollbrecht ,
Sorry for the delayed response, your post got swallowed up in the forum.1Password cannot launch the browser if there is no open and active browser window in the background. If you close all browser windows or if you minimize the browser, 1Password won't be able to locate an active window and will fail to open.
The current way to use open and fill from mini or from the desktop app is to first open the browser and leave that browser window open, then open 1Password, select the login item you need and click on open and fill.

I am running macOS 11.2.1 and 1Password 7 Version 7.7.1.BETA-8 (70701008).
When the default web browser is set to Safari I can do the following:
1. Close Safari using cmd-Q. So there is no open or active browser window in the background.
2. Select a password entry and click the GO button.
3. A Safari browser window opens with the entry.
According to you, this shouldn't work. But it just did for me. And this also works when I minimize all the browser windows to the dock.
I also tried this on my old windows PC and got the same results. So it seems to work everywhere except for non Safari browsers on a Mac.My issue is that when I change the default browser to Brave on a Mac it doesn't behave in this way. So there is an issue that needs to be fixed because I expect it to work the same way regardless of the browser used. Is that issue with 1Password, Brave, or macOS? I don't know and I don't have the time to debug the code. And my guess is that your software engineers already have tools in place to debug something like this.

Hey @MarkVollbrecht ,
This issue affects only Mac OS with non-Safari browsers - yes.
We're expecting things to work better with our newer "1Password in the browser" extension when we release its integration feature, which will allow it to connect to the desktop app just like the Classic 1Password extension does. There are no plans to update the 1Password Classic extension for now, and it will remain in its current state until further notice, which is why I offered the workaround.
