Auto Save / Auto Update doesn't work in Firefox (Lastpass Convert)

As the title says, I'm a Lastpass convert, and I like a lot about 1Password.
However, my experience adding or updating passwords has been lacking in comparison. From what I've found online I think my expected functionality in 1password exists.

When using 1Password on Windows 10, with Firefox (Chromium Edge too, and maybe others), with Firefox extension (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1password-x-password-manager/), I don't get prompted to save a login by 1password when entering a login that doesn't exist in my Vault, OR if I update a password of an already existing login.

I'm expecting to go to a website, enter the login info, and sign in, and as the sign in succeeds and I'm redirected, 1Password would say "Hey, do you want to save this login for yyy.com?" At the moment, when I click through the username and password fields, 1Password offers me the ability to click to save the current login info so far.

Additionally, if I update an existing login, I expect 1Password to say "Hey, do you want to update the password for YYY or BBB for zz.com?"

I'm not sure if there is something wrong with my preferences, or something wrong with my browser/browser extensions.

You need desktop app and "classic extension" for browser to have that kind of functionality: https://support.1password.com/cs/1password-classic-extension/
If you uninstall 1Password X (like classic extension installation steps tell you to do), you lose "automatically detect login fields and offer auto-fill" feature. Instead, you have to call 1Password desktop app or open the webpage through 1Password to automatically auto-fill saved credentials.
I have had no issues using both classic extension and 1Password X simultaneously to get both features. Only downside is I have to input my master password twice: to desktop app and to 1Password X.

Hi @torchbearer14! Welcome to the forum!

While it's true that the classic extension has this functionality, the browser extension that you are using has it too. Is this happening on every website, or is there a specific one where you noticed this?

The good news it that desktop app integration should make it back soon, our developers are working on it as we speak :)

Does it? Because at least that's not my experience, and instructions for using 1Password X extension tells you do click "Save in 1Password" before logging in: https://support.1password.com/getting-started-browser/
No 1Password X prompts after logging in. Only by installing classic extension I get those "Would you like to save the credentials you just used to login?" prompts.

Glad to hear integration between X and desktop app is just around the corner! Does that mean the classic extension will be obsolete and no longer needed?

    @liimasim:

I have just tested it after generating a new password and filling it, and the extension popped up asked me if I wanted to save the new login information :+1:

The only place where the classic extension did something more was when you were not generating a password using the generator, but entered the details manually on the website. In this case, the classic extension would indeed prompt you to save the credentials without having to click on "Save".

This is exactly what I'm talking about, and I guess @torchbearer14 is in the same boat with me.

Do you have any plans to bring this feature to 1Password X?

    Hey @liimasim ,
There are currently no plans to bring any automated popups to 1Password in the browser beyond the currently existing ones (when generating passwords), as our focus is to provide a less intrusive experience and popups are something we're trying to avoid :chuffed:

Clicking the "Save in 1Password" button before submitting the form is the correct way to go and will ensure users do not get prompted to save/update when they don't mean to, preventing duplicates and situations where they overwrite logins with incorrect data.

Additionally, if I update an existing login, I expect 1Password to say "Hey, do you want to update the password for YYY or BBB for zz.com?"

If you click the "Save in 1Password" button that shows up under the username/password field on a website that you already have stored in 1Password, then the save/update prompt will show up and will give you an option to either save it as a new login or update the existing one :)
