What is the reason for a separate login in firefox and edge for mac?
When I log in to the 1password app on my mac book, then I don't need to sign in to the chrome and safari extensions, but I do need to do an extra sign in when I am using the Edge or Firefox extensions. Why that extra sign in?
1Password Version: 7.7
Extension Version: 1.23.1 Firefox & 1.23.0 Edge
OS Version: os x 11.2.1

Hi @ajcutz!
You probably installed a different version of the browser extension in Chrome than you did in Edge or Firefox. Can you try downloading the classic browser extension and see if that is the one you are looking for?
Get the 1Password classic extension

Thank you that worked.

What was 1Password trying to accomplish with this new Firefox extension? Not only does it lock and unlock completely separately from the desktop app, but it also binds to a different keyboard shortcut and doesn't allow me to set it manually back to Cmd + \ to match the desktop app (and the behavior I've gotten used to over the years).
I haven't been able to find a blog post or official article addressing the switch from classic to whatever it's at now, which one would expect to exist given the huge changes. I see in recent release notes that average unlocking time has been reduced, which is patently false if you count the time we are now spending re-entering our master password just for Firefox. Seems like a regression rather than an upgrade.

The original idea was to allow everyone to be able to use 1Password, even in those cases where it was not possible to install the 1Password desktop app (for example, on Linux machines, or on company-managed Windows computers). Having an independent extension which does not need the desktop app to function would allow everyone to use 1Password in their browsers.
