Scanning Passports

Dear 1Password,

Does it make sense to scan one's passport and save it as a document in 1Password, or is saving the passport's information (number, issue date, etc.) sufficient? The same question for social insurance/social security numbers.

Well wishes,

Michael

I took the approach of both a scan and typing in the details for all of the items you mentioned. Better to have too much information than not enough was my thinking.

Makes sense. Thanks for the quick reply.

I could just see myself getting out somewhere and someone saying if you only had a scan.... That would be my luck.

I would say both - having the information in a field is useful if you ever want to copy/paste it, while having a scan is pretty critical if you ever need to supply a scan e.g. for opening financial account etc.

Indeed, that is what I also do @occamsrazor :+1:
