Please give advanced users an option.
I read this story and I was sorry to hear that. I myself also love to have the option to keep 1Password unlocked in my browser forever or for 30 days.
Please, dear 1Password team, I hope you listen.
Here is the story:
"I just purchased 1Password last night, a family plan for about $23 for the first year, after a 50% off coupon and cashback from a friend.
Within 2 hours, I uninstalled it and went to Bitwarden. The ONE tiny little thing that got me: Every time I close and reopen my browser, I have to re-enter my master password.
This is an inconvenience I just don't want to "deal with". My master password is a sentence. It's quite secure. I also live with my wife and my cats, and I trust them not to steal my passwords. Well, I don't trust my cats, but they're not a threat... Yet.
For ease of use, I want my browser extension to keep me logged in. It's not a huge request. Lastpass did this, Bitwarden does this. It's a real shame too, I liked 1Password a lot."

Hey @r1ma ,
I suggest you install 1Password Classic in your browser: https://support.1password.com/cs/1password-classic-extension/
1Password Classic connects to the 1Password desktop app, which allows it to remain unlocked for as long as the desktop app is unlocked, even if you close the browser. You can set the desktop app to never lock up, which will keep it unlocked unless you restart/shut down the computer, but we really recommend against this. The whole point of buying a huge safe to keep your valuables in it is to have it locked and guarded, not leaving it unlocked because then you'd might as well purchase a closet instead of a safe ;)

Ok, thanks for informing me about that option. After all, advanced users should have options, and depending on the threat level, chose their security options. I would choose to never lock my vault on both the browser and desktop app.
Anyway, my goal was to share thoughts. Thanks.0 -
Glad I could help :+1:
And thank you for sharing your thoughts, much appreciated!

LOL. This is hilarious to me. Sorry. You actually think a password app that people need to access 20x an hour is the same as a Safe in a closet that you don't open barely once or twice a year?
Honestly that's a terrible analogy. But if that's how you guys view 1Password (basically as cold storage that is rarely accessed) no wonder you've made these decisions for your users.
The whole point here is that people access this thing multiple times an hour. Therefore you should code features that reflect that so usability isn't a tedious nightmare for them.
Not everyone needs this thing locked the second they log in somewhere. Maybe they only need that functionality when traveling. In fact, I can't think of a scenario where they WOULD need that functionality unless you think people are getting their laptops physically stolen from their laps?
Or you assume that everyone using 1Password is in a public setting and walking away from their computers?
Because those are the only two scenarios I can think of where your default functionality makes any sense.
So no. The purpose of 1Password is not to have it locked all the time, as quickly as possible. The purpose of 1Password is to provide users with a way to securely store their passwords.
Don't remove functionality. Add new options in the settings.
Let the user take responsibility for the level of security they need. Its not your job to decide that for them.

Hey @C820 ,
Let's get things into proportions here - You can definitely keep 1Password unlocked for as many hours as you'd like. If you're currently sitting down at your computer, open your browser and unlock 1Password in the browser, it will remain unlocked until one of the following conditions are met:
- The auto-lock idle timer kicks in (meaning you don't touch the computer for X amount of minutes). This setting can be modified in the extension's settings.
- You close the browser completely.
- Your computer goes to sleep (can be modified in settings).
- You restart/shutdown your computer.
So unless you open and close your browser multiple times in a single minute (or restart/shutdown multiple times in a single minute), 1Password will remain unlocked for the duration of your session or until you lock it manually. Actually, if you set 1Password's auto-lock feature off and keep your browser running without quitting it, you can keep 1Password unlocked for months.
In addition, our 1Password Classic extension connects to the desktop app and can remain unlocked even if you quit the browser, so you do have all the options you want here (aside from when restarting/shutting down the computer). In addition, we're currently working on integrating the newer 1Password in the browser with the desktop app so that it could also remain unlocked when closing the browser, but that will take a little longer, so keep your apps up to date and stay tuned :)
