I log into a site using the saved info in 1Password, but it asks to save it again.

In the dialog asking whether to save the login, there is a little gear wheel with the option to never 'autosave'; I don't know what autosave means in this context.

Autosave would be where you do not wish 1Password to attempt to save the login. It would be similar to the 1Password > Preferences > Browsers > Autosave section.
