How exactly does 1password use the website field?
I've seen a number of threads about suggestions for URL matching and have pieced together an idea of how it works from responses but I cannot find a canonical description of it in the knowledgebase. Is this documented somewhere?

Hey @xaraca ,
It's not documented because it is very simple - 1Password suggest login items based on the domain of the website.
If you have 20 different logins for www.website.com (some of which have a different subdomain and/or prefix/suffix) - all will be suggested to you when trying to autofill. For example:
- admin.website.com
- cpanel.website.com
- prod.website.com
- website.com/admin
- https://website.com/cpanel
- etc....
All of the above will be suggested when trying to autofill on the domain "website.com".
If you try to autofill on a different domain (e.g. website.cpanel.com), then 1Password won't suggest filling because that is a different website.Does that clarify things?

Hey @xaraca ,
Yes, the ordering of the suggestions is as follows:
- Favorites that are an exact match of both the base domain and subdomain.
- Favorites that are an exact match of the base domain.
- Exact matches of the base domain and subdomain.
- Exact matches of the base domain.
All of the above will be ordered alphabetically according to the login item's Title.
So if you go to https://login.website.com , the login entry that contains this exact URL should show up first (unless you have a favorite login that contains website.com, in which case it will show up first), followed by all the others.

Thank you that is very helpful. So anything after the domain is ignored, e.g. subdirectories?

Yes.
We do have some feature requests from customers to enhance the suggestions matching and provide more customizable options there, so this might change in the future, but for now this is how suggestions matching works :)
