How to transfer account info from business to personal?

IBM pays for my 1password account. My last day at IBM is tomorrow 3/16. How do I start a personal account and transfer all the information? I would like to to start a Family account so that my high school children and wife can use it too.

TIA
Derick

  • Hi @dgbehrends

We'd be happy to help you continue using 1Password after your departure. Would it be possible to shoot us an email to support@1password.com from your IBM email address? That will help us determine what is already in place so we can best help you move forward. When you email in you can include a link to this thread (https://1password.community/discussion/119820/how-to-transfer-account-info-from-business-to-personal#latest) so that you don't have to repeat yourself. :)

    Thanks!

    Ben

I did as you requested, however my IBM account will no longer be monitored starting tomorrow afternoon.

I don't think I got a ticket number. Joshua G. just replied to my email.

    Hi there Derick! 👋🏻

Thank you for reaching out to us at 1Password. I'd be happy to assist you with this!

If you've been storing personal data in your work-provided 1Password account, but you're about to leave your position with your company, I'd recommend following these steps ASAP to prevent you from losing access to this data!

Sign up for a personal 1Password account here on 1Password.com: https://1password.com/sign-up/
Add your new account to one of the apps where you're signed into your work account: https://support.1password.com/add-account/
Move or copy any data from your work account into your personal account using the app: https://support.1password.com/move-copy-items/#move-or-copy-items-in-the-apps
Sign out of your work account from within the app once you've copied all of your data out of it: https://support.1password.com/sign-out/
Just in case your work account is suspended or deleted as soon as you leave your position, I definitely recommend acting fast. Let me know if you have any questions throughout this process!

I'll be on the lookout for any replies. 👍🏻

I was able to export all of my logins before my IBM account was shut down and I was able to import them into my newly created Families account under my personal email. However I still need help with one thing. When I imported my logins they went into a shared Vault. Since this is a family account I don't want all family members knowing my passwords. How do a export from the shared value and then import into my private vault. Another problem I have is that I can no longer use the windows app since it was tied to my IBM email address. I tried uninstalling 1password and then reinstalling it but it still thinks I am logging into my IBM account. When that happens I see a message that says the account is deactivated and then 1password just quits...every time.... It doesn't give me enough time to switch accounts in the menu before the whole app just dissapears. Please advise.

No export is needed. Move your data from the shared vault to your personal vault. Verify all of your data is in the Personal vault. Then remove the items from the shared vault trash that will get created automatically due to the change in vaults. This occurs due to how the vaults are encrypted.

It sounds like you'll want to open 1Password on the Windows computer. At the lock screen, select Help > Troubleshooting > Reset all 1Password data. Follow the prompts to reset the data and remove the other account. You'll need to sign in to your personal account again at the completion.

I tried to do a move but I couldn't figure out how to select them all at once. I have over 200 items. No way do I want to do that one by one

If your using the desktop client select a single item in the middle and then press command + A (Mac) To my best recollection Windows is Control + A and then move the items in bulk.

  • Yes, I agree no manual with each and every one. Ouch.

That worked for resetting the windows app and using the Ctrl-A to select and move all of them. For some reason I was not able to select them all from the web app.

The web app is not quite there yet. My apologies. I'm glad to hear it worked on Windows.
