colored icons in 1P(Mac) desktop

Are these different colors supposed to mean something, or are they just supposed to be "pretty"?

    Essentially the latter. :) 1Password has historically used a generic placeholder image for Login items that had no associated Rich Icons. Something like this:

    Now 1Password provide a more polished and personalized experience by generating a unique placeholder image for each Login item (as you see in your screenshot above). Generated Rich Icons use a monogram derived from the item's title and a background color chosen from a predefined array (which is assigned based on the item's unique identifier). If you'd prefer you can assign a custom icon to your items that do not have Rich Icons.

    Our brains are designed to ascribe meaning to what we see.
    If the colors have no meaning, they are clutter.

  • They provide visual distinction between what may appear to be otherwise similar items.
