Goodbye
I've been a 1Password customer/user since 1Password 2 for Mac (there was no 1Password for Windows at that point in time).
Your product served me well over the years, but since your push for subscriptions I've been looking at moving over to something that doesn't treat me like an endless money pit. I am sick and tired (cliche but true) of companies acting like they are the only party with bills to pay. My salary has effectively been frozen since the 2008 financial crash - I am a public servant. Government doesn't like to give raises even though my workload has definitely increased, my hours have increased, and my "rights" have been eroded. The subscription troupe loves to use the coffee example: costs less than a coffee. Get real! I don't have coffee from coffee shops. I am not in financial ruins and my credit score is actually pretty high, this is because I am diligent about the way I spend and wasting money on a subscription for a product that has worked for years on the standalone licensing model just doesn't cut it.
Some of the ways you guys have tried to steer users to subscriptions is slimy to say the very least. I cannot support your business with my money any longer so I installed Bitwarden, self hosted, I have two servers at home one of which runs Docker and it runs beautifully. I also use Traefik with LetsEncrypt. I keep my system secure and up to date. I trust my network and I trust that Bitwarden is protecting my data. I don't have to worry about logging in to Dropbox or setting up fold sync, It Just Works™ .
I am here to say thanks for the old times and to say the current times suck. Best of luck to all of you and it's an incredible pity and a shame that the business model changed from being user-friendly to milking the user. I don't want, or need, you to host my data and because of your greed, now you have $0 dollars from me, at least before I was happy to give you my money for a standalone license. If you're curious to know what prompted all this, is the fact that your new Linux app which I have been eagerly waiting for, only works with a subscription.
And your 1Password X extension that I hoped would work with Dropbox sync didn't. Your app was the sole reason I returned a Chromebook I bought on Black Friday last year. I was so disillusioned that an app I depend so much on, couldn't give me its core functionality unless I forked a monthly fee. The fact that I had to return a device because of your greed disgusted me but it made me research and now I get to use an open-source, well-supported app for free on my own terms, and it works in several different platforms. Oh, and their premium service for those that can't self host is $10 a year A YEAR! You guys should be ashamed, truly, not because you want to be a successful business but because you have become greedy. You could still offer the standalone licence yet you did everything in your control to remove that from your storefront, to make it difficult, and to actually completely remove that licensing model from new releases.
I don't know how many years it's been since you released v2, it was a nice and bumpy road to beg for a proper Windows version, a proper Android version, and feature/performance parity with your Mac version, but I'm glad I'll no longer have to worry about those things.

Thank you for the feedback and the kind words @fcar! I am very sorry to hear about the situation and to see you leave, but I certainly respect that. You need to use a password manager that makes you happy, even if it's not 1Password. Make sure to stay safe online, and I am happy at least that you found a new solution that ticks all your boxes.
Thank you again and good luck with everything!
