Sign in from new browser - Is a secret key always required?

Do you always need your Secret Key when signing in from a new browser?

I wanted to understand a scenario I have. Say I am traveling and I lose my phone. I have all my info in my 1password account however I need to login using a new computer. The issue is that I won't have my secret key with me to login to the new browser?

What is the recommended approach for this? Would I save that secret key in your email or something?

Yes, new browsers always require the Secret Key.

  • Hey @theredmoose. As @plttn said, a new device always does need the Secret Key as well as your account password. Personally I'd try to keep your Secret Key out of your email if possible. 1Password on Google and Apple devices does store encrypted versions of your Secret Key in Google Drive/iCloud, so if you set up a new device signed in to the same Google or Apple account, you should only need to enter your password there, as well. But of course, this would mean being able to sign in to those accounts in the first place, so that's something to keep in mind.
