1Password for Linux, 8.1.0-45
Hello, everyone, and welcome to a new week!
This was a big week for us with several new features that we've been working on recently. But, before getting into that I want to draw your attention to...
drumroll please π₯
β¨ π 1Password 8 for Windows Early Access π π
Yes, indeed, the 1Password that you have come to know and love on Linux has now made it's way to Windows! This is a huge day for us, but especially the developers working on our common core, our UI developers, and our Windows team. The teams in 1Password do not work in isolation and we are all working together to ensure that the Linux and Windows releases continue move forward together.
New Vaults
For the last few weeks, our team has also been working to bring vault creation to 1Password for Linux. Today, I am thrilled to show you what we've done.
Right next to your vaults or your account on the sidebar, you can click the plus sign to start the process.
New Windows (No puns intended)
Do you need to open two items at the same time? Or are you like me and sometimes need to use a password saved in 1Password to open another 1Password account?
Well, now you can do that. You can open an item in a new window which you can move aside or rearrange however you need to best work and select another item, possibly opening that one in a new window, also.
What's more, if 1Password locks, all of those windows will close, ensuring that none of your passwords will still be exposed.
β Security Questions β
We discovered a serious bug in password generation for security questions.
It is possible that after we generated a password for a security question, that password might change before you save the question. In today's release we have fixed that problem and added some extra tests around it to ensure that it won't occur again.
However, please review the security questions for any items you created or edited recently. This is necessary to ensure that you do not get locked out of your accounts because of a mistake.
Installing and Upgrading
Of course, 1Password 8.1.0-45 has a lot of new improvements! Check out our release notes for more!
You can always download the latest stable release on our website.
On DEB and RPM-based systems, if you install the stable release, your system will automatically track the stable releases. We expect to make a stable release of 1Password every one to two months, but we will continue to release the beta version every week. If you wish to track the beta channel, download from the beta page, instead.
Beta releases are more likely to have regressions than stable. At any time, you can edit these files again to switch back to the stable channel.
That is it for this week! See you again next week with yet more great things.
