Safari extension not syncing in background

Say for example I create a new login in 1PasswordX in Chrome on my Mac. If I then go to my iPhone and go to the website directly in Safari and use the 1Password extension, the new login does not automatically appear.

I've discovered I must open the iOS app in order to get the new login to sync, and then I can go back to Safari and use the extension to autofill the login.

Is this how things are supposed to work on iOS or is there something wrong here?

Thanks in advance for the help!

    After a period of time iOS puts the app to sleep. If that occurs you may need to wake the app up by unlocking and allowing it to sync, just as you did.

    So just to be clear. If I have recently used the app new logins created on other devices should be automatically pushed to the Safari extension? I don't have to open the app every-time to update it?

    @bradmic16:

    Indeed, the AutoFill extension should sync items by itself now (unless iOS put the app to sleep already, as Tommy mentioned).
