Can't move past "Adding your account" screen

I am able to login on the web and -while detached from the desktop app- on the browser extension, but not on the desktop app. My OS is Manjaro Gnome version. I have another machine that is an older install and there I am logged in to the desktop app (I won't try logging out because I fear I won't be able to log back in, as it currently stands) I installed the app through the "official" AUR https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/1password/.

When I run 1password I can't see any helpful information.

This is all I can see for many minutes:

Do you have any suggestions on what I can try next?

  • Hey there @vadviktor, I am really sorry you're running into this issue! I'll be happy to help get this sorted out for you.

We've encountered a recent issue with 1Password where, if a security key is added as a two-factor authentication method for a 1Password account, 1Password for Linux isn't able to "fall back" to the authenticator app to request authentication, and gets stuck at the adding account page. Do you possibly have a security key added as an authentication method for your 1Password account?

The good news is that we have a fix for this issue available in the Beta version of 1Password for Linux - could you download the beta and let me know if you can sign in there? Here's the steps for getting on the Beta channel:

Use Beta Versions of 1Password - Linux AUR

Thanks, I look forward to hearing if this resolves this issue for you. Talk to you soon!

Hey @Dayton_ag thanks for getting back to me so fast :) Indeed I have multiple keys set up on my account. With the beta I was able to log in with it asking for the OTP. I can wait until the next version is out if you do not have any other means to resolve this issue in 8.1.

  • Hey there @vadviktor, I'm glad to hear that this worked well in the beta! That confirms that we know what's going on.

Currently there is no way to resolve the issue within 8.1, as it has to do with 1Password's authentication behavior. That said, it is possible to work around this issue by removing the security keys from your account, adding your account to 1Password for Linux 8.1 (and authenticating with a 6-digit code from your authenticator), and then re-adding your security keys.

Thanks @Dayton_ag for confirming. I'm good with waiting for the next release. Cheers

  • Not a problem @vadviktor, glad I could help!
