Feature Request: Automatic Account (password) Creation
Hello everyone,
I've stumbled multiple times trying to create an account using the 1password browser extension. There is no way to automatically create an account using a username/email and password combination automatically... Or I cannot figure the correct workflow...
- When I am presented with a signup form and I click on the 1password extension, it is empty, as it did not find any accounts.
- I then click on the "Generate Password" button.
- A password is generated and a "Password" record is automatically created.
I can save & copy the password... but this is not an "Account" record, which should contain the full signup information, glaringly the "username/email" field...
I'd expect 1password to know my standard email, and when I want to create a new account, use 1password to populate the "email", "password" fields and save a new record with those data along with the url of the website I am signing up to...
1password suggesting I save the account after I create it, is not a viable workflow as I need to generate a random password first, using 1password and not by me typing random characters...
I must be missing something very obvious as this is a core value prop workflow "creating a new password account" ...
Let me know what I am missing or if this needs to be implemented,
Thanos

Hi @thanpolas!
You should see a Save in 1Password button below the form fields. If you click on it, you can save the username first, and you will have the chance to update this Login item in the next step, after you have generated a password too:
Save a login for a website where the username and password are on different pages
On the password field, 1Password can help you with the automatic password generation too. In this case, you will see a different Use Suggested Password menu below the password field.

Hello @ag_ana,
I am sorry but I don't see any of these buttons you mention... my case isn't about having username and password on different pages either... It is a form that contains all the fields on the same page...
like so:
Maybe there is a setting I am missing? Or another extension is interfering? (I am using uBlock Origin).

Thank you for the screenshot. Since you did not mention the extension version in your first post, I was assuming you were running the latest version of it. I see from the screenshot now that you are running the old classic extension instead, so you won't see the fields I mentioned:
I recommend giving the latest extension a try, and seeing if that one works better for you. You can download it from here :+1:

Right... I double checked and found the extension version to be: 4.7.5.90
So you are saying that 1password has issued a NEW extension? Is that the address: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/1password-–-password-mana/aeblfdkhhhdcdjpifhhbdiojplfjncoa?hl=en ?
Can I ask what were the reasons for a new extension vs updating the existing one?
Thank you

Correct: you can see the entire changelog here.

Yes :+1:

The new extension works very differently than the classic one, and was rebuilt completely. I think that because of this our developers decided to create it as a brand new product, so users could choose which one they preferred while they were building the new one and adding new features.
