Prompt for Apple Watch unlock upon opening

One of the features which was useful in 1P7 was that when you the app/extension was opened and you had enabled "Unlock with Apple Watch" it would prompt for the unlock straight away but with 1P8 you have to press the watch icon (with the mouse which is less efficient) in order to unlock.
Could we bring this feature back?
