I feel your pain. Also a long time 1password stand alone license user. If something good is coming from this shift, it’s be testing and evaluating open source solutions like keepassxc. It’s nowhere near as streamlined as 1password but will not require my students, some of whom are not well off financially, to maintain a new perpetual fee.
I occasionally teach infosec basics at a battered woman’s shelter and donations would cover standalone 1password licenses but it would be inappropriate for me to say “here’s your first year free, then you have a lifetime of payments owed” to women escaping abusive relationships, many of whom are starting over with nothing.
So, the only guarantee in life is change and over the last year I’ve been exploring other options for them.
