Recovery Key for iMac

Hi. I want to set up a Recovery Key for my Mac. I know that Apple will generate a 28 alphanumeric key. I know I have to keep it in a safe place because if I lose it somehow, that's it ....I'm screwed!!! My question is that I was told that occasionally Apple will ask me for the key. I don't want to hunt & peck the keyboard so, I'm pretty certain I can set up a name on 1Password to automatically fill it in or at least do a C&P?

@solitaryman1 You only need your Apple Recovery Key if you forget your Apple ID password and no longer have access to your trusted devices.

So I don't think it makes sense that you might be occassionally asked for it. That said, I would save it in 1Password as a separate item, ideally in a separate shared vault, so that if I lost access to my Apple ID password, I might still have access to my Recovery Key.
