Share sheet removal is a direct violation of the App Store rules

This just came to my attention, as the result of the recent changes to the Notability app (in that they too are switching to a subscription model, and are actively taking away features users already paid for), that the removal of the share sheet extension is in direct violation of the App Store rules. Specifically, clause 3.1.2:

  • If you are changing your existing app to a subscription-based business model, you should not take away the primary functionality existing users have already paid for. For example, let customers who have already purchased a “full game unlock” continue to access the full game after you introduce a subscription model for new customers.

The share sheet extension provided primary functionality in allowing 1Password to fill-in non-password fields. Its replacement, the Safari extension, only works with a 1Password subscription. As such, the switch to a subscription has taken away a features users have already paid for.

Suffice it to say, I will be reporting this violation to Apple.
