IOS and Android both support using a QR code to connect to a wifi network. If you generate a QR code in the following format and point your camera at it, it will prompt to connect to the network

WIFI:S:{SSID};T:{TYPE};P:{PASSWORD};;

SSID is the "Network Name" in 1password
TYPE is the "Wireless Security" in 1password, but slightly different values. "WPA2 Personal" maps to "WPA"
PASSWORD is the "Wireless Network Password" in 1password.

AFAIK, the complete documentation for the spec is available at https://github.com/zxing/zxing/wiki/Barcode-Contents#wi-fi-network-config-android-ios-11

This would be useful for me to be able to open my vault, select my wifi network and just show it to a friend for them to connect without having to read it out loud or type it in. Given I randomly generate passwords, it's a huge time savor to just scan and go.

  • Hey @kormoc:

    This is a great idea! I've added your feedback internally to see if it's something that would make sense to add to future versions of 1Password. 😀
