[COMMUNITY META] Javascript / server validation on user signup form differ

Hullo,

I just tried signing up for an account. I tried the username whi-tw, and received the validation error:

Invalid username. Please use only letters, numbers, and/or underscores.

I then changed the username field to whi_tw, and the validation error went quiet.

Upon submitting the form, however, I received an error along the lines of "Please use only letters or numbers" (the underscore was not allowed).

This should probably be changed, to avoid frustration upon signup.

    Hi @whitw

    Underscores are indeed not allowed, as they break the @ mention function, but I don't believe we have any control over that messaging. I'll see if there is a way we can make more clear what characters are allowed on the form itself. 👍️ Thanks for the report.
