Unstable 1Password extension (Chrome or Firefox)
Hi,
I’ve been using 1PW for a few years. When it works it’s great. But I’ve been encountering some issues over the last year or two which I’ve been unable to work out and need some help with.
Extension is not working properly. I've now tried it on both Chrome and Firefox (Chrome is my default browser on the Mac, iPad and iPhone). Extension seems to download and "install" readily. But then several problems occur, listed below.
1- Although extension was just installed, Cmd/ short cut brings up a dialog box that instructs me to install the extension if I'd like to autofill passwords
2.The extension icon populates the box where I enter my user or email of the site I want to access (the icon populate the far right corner). I click on the icon and it opens the sign in from 1PW - I select the auto fill and it fills in the user.. It then automatically jumps to the PW box, again which has the 1PW icon ( far right corner of the password box) - I choose the auto fill from 1PW and the password is populated. I then have to click on the sign in option for the page to log me in. I believe that when I select the sign in in 1PW it should autofill the user, PW and log me in but that does not happen.
3. The extension disappears from Chrome or Firefox after a while (indeterminate time). If I reload it and then click on the extension it request I sign in with 1PW user, secret key and password. After doing this the application functions the same as I've described above.
I’m kinda frustrated at this point and would appreciate any help to resolve!!! I’d be happy to clarify descriptions above or provide any additional details that may assist you with addressing these issues.
Thanks so much!!!!

Hey @Baskim711! Sorry to hear about the trouble with 1Password in your browser. I'll reply to each point in your message below:
1- Although extension was just installed, Cmd/ short cut brings up a dialog box that instructs me to install the extension if I'd like to autofill passwords
As long as you use the 1Password app and have the "Integrate with 1Password App" option on in the extension settings, CMD+\ can work to fill single logins on a page. It can also be used to open the inline menu with multiple logins. With the inline menu open, you would be able to use the arrow keys to select the login you want to use. Press Enter to fill it.
Let us know if you see something different!
So 1Password should fill both the username and password together, as long as they are on the same page. However, 1Password does not automatically submit the username and password to the site and log you in. While this is something that was done in the past, the function was changed to improve security and to prevent bad actors from obtaining your data. You would have to manually click or press Enter in order to sign in.
- The extension disappears from Chrome or Firefox after a while (indeterminate time). If I reload it and then click on the extension it request I sign in with 1PW user, secret key and password. After doing this the application functions the same as I've described above.
Do you automatically clear your cache and cookies in those browsers? If so, then you would indeed be asked to sign in again with your Account Password and Secret Key. If that's not the case, please let us know and we can take a closer look!
