Opening 1Password Web UI from 1Password extension

When I want to open the 1Password web UI, the easiest way I've found is to:
1. Open the extension
2. Find a random login, and edit it. This opens the web UI.
3. Cancel the edit

It's significantly faster than opening my.1password.com, which sometimes requires a login, and requires a bunch of keystrokes and/or loading screens and is quite slow to do. It's much faster to Edit -> Cancel, which automatically logs you in, and avoids any loading/splash screens on the web interface.

This appears to be a pretty common issue that I've seen amongst my family & friends.

Given that opening the web UI seems to be a pretty common operation, is there no easy way to do this asides from editing a random login and cancelling out of it? This seems like some pretty annoying UX. I've tried clicking on a bunch of random buttons in the extension and this doesn't appear to be possible at all.

Is there a way to do this easily without the extra clicks? Surely like some sort of "Open 1Password Web" dialog or button?

Hey @pNUBCxTU! Is your goal in going to your account at 1Password.com always to edit your logins? If so, it may be easier to simply use the 1Password app for that. However, if your goal is to access your account to change things like your payment method, then it's best to go straight to my.1password.com and sign in. Security is our top priority, so we do require that you enter your Account Password if you're starting a new session in the browser.

For some context, the extension was built to make saving and filling items easy. It is not meant to be used to manage and organize your logins or your account details. If you try to do that by editing an item, I would say that the extra steps you'd have to put in would take the same effort as going straight to my.1password.com and signing in from there. It is not really a good workaround.

If you simply want to be able to go to your account online without entering your Account Password as much, the best way to do that is to change the auto-lock settings with the steps here: https://support.1password.com/auto-lock/#manage-auto-lock-on-1passwordcom. Try that out, and if you have any further questions, please let us know.

Hi @Jay_1P! Thanks for the response.

Yes, I have discovered the 1Password app - it does make editing logins a bit easier. But sometimes I don't have the app installed, so I would like to use the web UI to organize my logins.

The difference isn't the amount of clicks. It is the latency in loading "my.1password.com". In other words:

    1. I type "my.1password.com", which takes time (even with browser autofill).
    2. I need to wait for the page to load. Then I click login.
    3. I then need to wait for the vaults to load... I click on a vault
    4. I need to wait for the specific vault to load

Whereas, if I do the following:

    1. Click on the extension (fast!)
    2. Edit any random login (fast!)
    3. I need to wait for the specific vault to load (common to the above)
    4. Cancel the edit (very annoying)

I am able to get to my logins in significantly faster time than if I was to open the my.1password.com app. This is because editing a login in the extension automatically "logs me in".

Even with the "auto-lock" function set at 10 minutes, the 1Password web UI automatically logs me out if I type "my.1password.com" in the URL, so the first method is incredibly slow.

My request is therefore, if you don't have the app installed, given that you already log me in automatically when I edit a login, couldn't you just make it so that there is a button to just open the web UI? This lets me bypass step 4 ("cancel the edit").

I understand that this is saving mere seconds, and that installing the app does significantly reduce the time, but from observing other users of 1Password - they all do the same thing and abuse the EDIT button as a "go to 1password" button!!!!

@pNUBCxTU Thanks for breaking that down for me. I agree that being able to directly access your account online from the extension would be beneficial. I've filed a feature request for this on your behalf. Hopefully, this is something that our developers will consider in a future release.

Let us know if there's anything else we can do to help!
