[REQ] 1PW 8 attachments/files/documents have been neglected. It's time to change that :-)
1Password 8 is coming along beautifully; great job on all of the hard work!
One of the aspects of 1Password that has remained relatively stagnant has been Documents/attachments feature. I am sorry to say it shows and really hurts the user experience.
- Please allow the user to drag multiple files at once to attach to any entry (especially Documents). Right now the interface is not friendly towards draggability to documents.
- File names of attachments/documents are STILL not searchable. This is really unexpected, inconsistent interface
- Transitioning documents from 1PW 7 to 1PW 8 destroyed the organizational structure of my documents and created links. This really needs to be called out during the transition process clearly. To this day I am still 'recovering' data that was mixed up between various entries.
- Allow user to select default download folder location of attachments (hint: Desktop)
- Allow users to upload folders (with files inside) instead of just files only. This will undoubtedly save legions of your users from fragmented workflows of keeping data in different places and further cement 1Password as the center for all private information.
Thank you for your consideration.

Thank you, @mia! ๐ค I'm glad to hear you're enjoying 1Password 8. ๐
As for documents & attachments & files, these are all great suggestions. I third them. ๐
Documents and files and attachments are all near and dear to my heart and I'm looking forward to being able to give them all some additional love going forward. We have several things on the docket that need to be addressed first so we'll both need to wait longer than I'd like, but I'm sure we'll get there.
One part that I didn't fully grok was the transition of documents from version 7 to 8. Were you importing from a standalone vault into a 1Password membership?
Please let me know. Take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend. ๐

@dteare I migrated from standalone 1PW 7 to 1PW 8. To be honest, I hold AgileBits on a very high pedestal because of my high expectations, but I don't think 1PW 8 deserves the hate it's been getting. I honestly like the consistent interface between Mac & PC, the new, buttery smooth interface, and the 1Password.com integration. It works far better than 1PW 7 w/ Dropbox ever did.
For the file attachment issue, other user(s) have had similar issue. One posted recently here: https://1password.community/discussion/comment/632792#Comment_632792

Thank you, @mia. ๐ค We appreciate being on that pedestal and will do our best to continue to earn our placement there.
Regarding file attachments, Iโm not an expert there but it sounds like from @benโs comment there that it should be better now.
As for searching documents by name, I mentioned this in our internal Slack channel and @Mitch jumped on it and opened a merge request to add this functionality. Itโs getting late in the day here so Iโll test his changes tomorrow and weโll try to get it into next weekโs beta release.
Cheers!

yay! Thank you. I can't wait to test this out in beta.

@dteare may I make one more suggestion since I cannot edit the opening post anymore.
We find this to be very unintuitive the way 1PW handles the first attachment and then the rest at the bottom.
It would be more consistent if it handled all of the attachments the same at the bottom (like in the past like 1PW 7)0 -
Good morning! โ๏ธ
I just reviewed and tested and merged @Mitch's search enhancement to address your second point in your original post, @mia. It won't make it into this week's beta but it will be ready for you to try next week.
Regarding attachment organization, attachments are all grouped together at the bottom of an item. Every item can have attachments, and since Documents are also items, you can add attachments to them.
Another way of looking at it is Documents and Attachments are different and are implemented differently. This will be visible when you're testing search next week as you'll find that the Documents will appear in Quick Search but you'll need to expand the search to all matching items to find the attachments. This is because we need to further decrypt items to see their attachments (we need to decrypt the overview for Documents as well, but we purposely keep that small for performance).
You could embrace this and have the "main" file be the Document and attach auxiliary files to it. Or you could change things up to have a Login or a Secure Note be your item and then attach all your files as attachments there. Here's how that would look.
Cheers!

Thanks for this suggestion. It sounds good. ๐
sorted in the same order they were added.
It would be helpful if you could change the sort order here. Actually, you have to download the attachments, delete them and add them in that way they should be sorted. ๐

Expand all should not be problem. That's what most do anyways to find the details

Daaaaaveeee.. Thank you so much for the 'hat tip' and the inclusion of this feature. It's now working as I (and other users!) would expect now for searching.
As it stands now, items #2 & #3 have been resolved.
For the remaining issues, I would prioritize them for general users like this: #1 > #4 > #5
I will admit, #5 is a 'nice to have' but honestly #1 & #4 should be required elements in 1PW. #1 is just good, expected design.0
