Bug report: Upgrading from 1P 7 to 1P 8

You installation instructions [1] for upgrading from 7 to 8 tell us to "download and install". However, after doing so the browser extension unexpectedly becomes disconnected from the Windows app.
(The settings page already has "Connect ... browser" enabled by default.)
WORKAROUND BY USER: Uninstall & reinstall the browser extension.
SUGGESTED WORKAROUNDS BY AGILE BITS: Change the instructions to suggest this step. Or, if a browser or system restart is necessary, say so! Also give that information in the App > Settings > Browser.

(I'm using Edge on Win10 Pro)

1Password Version: 8.6.1
Extension Version: 2.3.2 (assume it had auto-upgraded)
OS Version: Windows 10 Pro 21H2

  • Hi @Netpog, thanks for letting us know of this issue - and I'm sorry to learn that it happened.

This is the first I've learned of this issue (and it hasn't come up in my personal testing), so I'd be interested to know the specifics of why this occurred.

It's great to hear that you've now got things working properly, but you're right - generally we aim to have the upgrade process be a fully automatic one, and not require reinstalling 1Password in your browser or anything of the sort.

If you're open to it, I'd be happy to investigate this further, so we can potentially prevent this from happening for other people in the future. If you can send us a brief email at support+windows@1Password.com with a link to this discussion, we'll get that going.

In any case, we're here if you encounter any further issues or have any questions we can help with. Thank you for letting us know about this!
