1P is controlling Login and Passwords settings in FireFox

Hi

I have FireFox 99.0 and it seems that 1Password is not letting me use the password manager in FireFox. I do keep a handful of passwords in FireFox, although the vast majority of my passwords are in 1Password.

In the preferences for FireFox at Logins and Passwords it says:

An extension, 1Password - Password Manager, is controlling this setting.

I can't see anyway to stop 1Password from doing this apart from disabling the 1Password extension.

1Password never used to do this, it has only started happening recently.

Thanks for reaching out to us here 🙂. I'm sorry for the trouble here.

I completely understand where you're coming from on this. When you install the 1Password browser extension, it basically takes over as the active password manager by default. While it can sometimes be difficult to 'juggle' more than one password manager, everyone has their own personal workflow, and we certainly respect that.

There is a way remove the message 'An extension, 1Password - Password Manager, is controlling this setting' in the Firefox settings - here's how:

1. Right-click the 1Password icon in the browser's toolbar and click Settings.
2. Under General turn off the "make 1Password the default password manager" option.

Now you should be able to turn on the built in password manager in Firefox, and use 1Password and Firefox together.

Things can get a little weird with the inline menu, as Firefox will try to suggest saved passwords, as well as 1Password. In case it is helpful, you can also turn off this setting in 1Password:

1. Right-click the 1Password icon in the browser's toolbar and click Settings.
2. Under Autofill turn off 'Show autofill menu on field focus'.

When you're on a website and want to use the 1Password inline menu to autofill, you can click the little 1Password icon in the field to toggle our inline menu on/off.

Thank you Paul for your excellent response.

I was really glad that in fact it wasn't just that I'd failed to notice some checkbox or other, that is normally why things aren't working on my computer ☺

In fact I have reviewed this the way I do things now and I have removed all passwords from FireFox and put them in 1Password so I am now using only one password manager as it makes sense.

So, I'm going to leave things as they are so that 1Password is the default password manager for FireFox.
