I completely understand where you're coming from on this. When you install the 1Password browser extension, it basically takes over as the active password manager by default. While it can sometimes be difficult to 'juggle' more than one password manager, everyone has their own personal workflow, and we certainly respect that.
There is a way remove the message 'An extension, 1Password - Password Manager, is controlling this setting' in the Firefox settings - here's how:
- Right-click the 1Password icon in the browser's toolbar and click Settings.
- Under General turn off the "make 1Password the default password manager" option.
Now you should be able to turn on the built in password manager in Firefox, and use 1Password and Firefox together.
Things can get a little weird with the inline menu, as Firefox will try to suggest saved passwords, as well as 1Password. In case it is helpful, you can also turn off this setting in 1Password:
- Right-click the 1Password icon in the browser's toolbar and click Settings.
- Under Autofill turn off 'Show autofill menu on field focus'.
When you're on a website and want to use the 1Password inline menu to autofill, you can click the little 1Password icon in the field to toggle our inline menu on/off.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
