Safari: 1Password Extension Deactivation

I noticed this morning when I started work that safari had deactivated 1password on my work computer & personal computer on the same morning. Cannot be a coincidence. Further it seems to freeze safari when I try to use it. Did anyone else experience similar?

1Password Version: 7.9.4
Extension Version: unknown
OS Version: 12.3.1

  • Hi @doyouthinkhesawrus .

Thanks for reporting the issue. It is truly bizarre. However, I haven't see other similar issues being reported so far. Would you please try the following steps and let me know if this resolves the issue for you?

    1. Quit Safari by two-finger clicking (control + click) its icon in the Dock area and selecting Quit.

    2. Quit the 1Password desktop app completely by two-finger clicking the little 1Password icon on the top menu bar of your Mac (where the clock is) and selecting Quit 1Password Completely.

      • Or, open 1Password and click inside the app to have it focused. Then, click 1Password 7 on the top-left corner beside  and choose Quit 1Password Completely.
    3. Open and unlock the 1Password desktop app again.

    4. Open Safari and wait a few seconds to let the extension load. Then, click on the 1Password in the browser's icon in the toolbar to see if it is working correctly.

    • Make sure 1Password is enabled in Safari's Extensions list.

Usually, the steps above will resolve most of the issues related to the updates, whether it is from 1Password, the browser or macOS.

Let me know how it goes.

    Hello,
I just have the same issue : The 1Password extension has disappeared from the Safari preferences window.
I just restarted the Mac: same issue
I deleted the "1Password for Safari" app an reinstalled them, quit the 1Password app : same problem
Clicking on the blue "Open Safari preferences" button in 1P for Safari does not open the browser, nothing happens.

Strange : I didn't update 1Password or 1Password for Safari these last days, no update of macOS either...

    1Password 8.7.0 (80700049)
    1Password for Safari 2.3.1 (20200)

I just uninstalled another time 1P for Safari with all the dependencies (.plist, containers, etc...) with the help of AppCleaner: same issue :-/
The problem does not appear on my wife's session 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well, it appears that the problem came from a macOS bug.
If you are interested, here is the command to copy and paste in your favorite Terminal:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -f -R /Applications/Safari.app

  • Hi @JuCos:

Glad to hear you were able to sort it. We've reported this to our friends at Apple, but in the meantime, the terminal command you shared is the steps to get it working again.
