Why is the Chrome extension on Mac consuming extreme amounts of memory (10GB+)?

We had this Chrome extension installed on employee computers (over 20 of them, all Macs -- some with M1 and some with Intel chips), and we had to uninstall it about a month ago because of high memory usage. Chrome was consuming over 10GB of memory (I saw over 30GB on 1 machine) and bringing all computers to a crawl. After uninstalling this extension, everything went back to normal. We had assumed this would have been resolved by now, but after trying the extension again yesterday we noticed the problem still exists. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? If not, is there something we've overlooked and we need to do in order to use this browser extension again? We use 1Password 7 on the OS, but like the browser extension installed because of how it auto-fills on webpages.

1Password Version: 7
Extension Version: 2.3.3
OS Version: macOS 12.3.1

Are the Mac up to date? The latest version of 1Password 7 is 7.9.4. I would also note that we launched 1Password 8 yesterday. You may wish to give it a try.

From the menubar, click 1Password 7 and then about 1Password.
