Will 1Password prompt users to upgrade or show that an update is available?
I'm wondering whether to tell family members that they should upgrade to 1Password version 8. Will 1Password prompt users to upgrade or show that an update is available?
1Password Version: 7.9.4

Hey @doray :
1Password 7 will not prompt you to upgrade to 1Password 8. If you or your family members would like to upgrade to 1Password 8, you can download it from our website here: 1Password - Download 1Password 8 for Mac.. Installing 1Password 8 should remove the 1Password 7 app from the device.
Let me know if you have any questions. 😊

Installing 1Password 8 should remove the 1Password 7 app from the device.
When I downloaded 1P 8 from the website and ran the installer, it didn't delete 1Password 7.app but instead zipped it and left it in Applications. (Handy in case you want to revert to 7.)

Considering the fact that 1Password states in another thread that there won't be future updates for 1Password 7, I cannot understand why there is not at least the possibility to upgrade from within the tool. It's irritating that the updater states that I am up to date when I am in fact running on an outdated and not further supported major version.

I didn't even know 1Password 8 was available, and I try to pay attention to these things. I only found out about it from an article in another publication. Why would 1Password's updater say you're up to date when in fact the app is outdated?

I'm sorry for the confusion, 1Password 8 is a separate download from 1Password 7 and can be installed from our website as Alvin mentioned. My colleague Ben expanded further on our "slow roll" strategy for the release of 1Password 8 for Mac here: https://1password.community/discussion/comment/640821/#Comment_640821
I hope that helps. 😊

Thank you, Dave, for responding. My question: Will existing customers be notified that 1Password 8 is available?
Ben talked about announcing it via tech news, social media, and 1Password's blog and forum, but there are many customers who don't read the tech news and so on and rely on 1Password to think about those things for them.0 -

Hi @Dave_1P, thanks for the hint, I am aware that this is a separate download, this is my main pain point. We do have 100+ installations that auto-update themselves reliably. Now we have to rollout a completely new installation. Why? Especially given the situation that simply using the installer at least in the combination macOS + Safari with 1P extension causes trouble and requires manual steps to mitigate (as we are discussing here: https://1password.community/discussion/comment/640858#Comment_640858).

tosch - Don't roll it out. You are going to have 100+ calls complaining about the new version. This is not an equal update / upgrade to v7. It's like another app that is far less than what it is replacing.Save yourself the headache and hassles. You'll just be downgrading back to v7. Don't do it to yourself or your company.
I really hope AB is listening to their customers...
