1Password dropdown not showing in login fields

The inline 1Password dropdown is no longer showing for me when I click on the 1Password icon in an input field. Screenshot:

I'm using Safari (v15.4, running on macOS 12.3.1), have recently upgraded to 1Password 8 (v8.7.0) and the new 1Password for Safari app (v2.3.3).

1Password Version: 8.7.0
Extension Version: 2.3.3
OS Version: 12.3.1

  • Hello @skatch,

Thank you for the screenshot. Does this issue only occur on one site or all of them? If the icon does not appear on all sites, let us try these steps to give 1Password a fresh start to see how it works.

    1. Select Safari in the menu bar > Quit Safari.

    2. Open Applications folder and move " 1Password for Safari" to Trash.

    3. Open App Store > Search and install a fresh copy of " 1Password for Safari"

    4. Open Safari => Select "Safari" in the menu bar => Preferences => Extensions and make sure the 1Password for Safari is enabled and try again.

It occurs on all sites. I'll try your suggested steps now.

Quitting/reinstalling the extension worked temporarily, but it's already broken for me again. Here's a pointer for what may be causing it to break:

    1. Initially after reinstalling, the 1Password inline dropdown worked as expected in login fields in Safari.
    2. I then opened the extension's settings (by clicking on the toolbar icon -> 1Password icon -> settings)
    3. I turned off a couple of my vaults (see screenshot for reference)
    4. I then loaded a login form again, and the inline 1Password dropdown once again doesn't work. Turning the vaults back on doesn't fix things.

That's all the testing I have time for now. Hope these details help the team fix problems.

Same issue. When clicking icon I get an unlock request and then it does nothing.

Hey @skatch and @lysander - Thanks for your continued feedback. 🙂

Our development team has recently discovered this as a bug with Safari Web Extensions settings pages. An issue has already been raised, and we are working with our friends at Apple to try and resolve this.

Essentially, after installing the 1Password for Safari extension, after navigating to an extensions settings page (even if you don't change any settings) the inline menu icon doesn't behave as expected. The only current method to put things back on track is a restart of the browser itself, which I realize isn't ideal.

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused with this issue, as I know it's a troubling one. Hopefully we can sort this out with Apple's help and make some positive strides soon.

Thanks for the response @paul.m_1p. It’s helpful to know what causes this to happen. Good luck to the 1password dev team - hope apple fixes the issue in their end soon.

  • On behalf of Paul, you're very welcome @skatch!
