Starting over with 1Password after a fling with another password manager ...

... specifically Enpass. I had imported my 1Password vault data to Enpass. No problem but I'm now wondering if I indeed should have stuck with Password. I have added some logins/etc. to the Enpass vault and am unsure of the best way to proceed.

I'm thinking a new 1Password vault, export the Enpass vault, then import it to 1Password? Or is there another process which would be better, more foolproof, whatever?

You can also use the enpass converter available in the converter suite. You'll want to export as JSON, but the README will guide you through the process.

The converter will produce a 1PIF, but you will need 1Password 7 to import that, as version 8 does not yet import. So you can temporarily install 1Password 7 and import. I'm assuming you have a 1Password account; your entries will sync, and they will be available to 1Password 8.

    a) After trying Enpass for several weeks I'm wondering about some of the procedures in certain instances. I'm too lazy to elaborate nor is this relevant. I got a great deal on a lifetime license and took it just because I could and was curious. I have a current nice deal on my 1Password subscription (as much as I despise subscriptions! :D
    b) Sounds like too much trouble when my proposed routine should work and would be but a few clicks?

While relatively straightforward it is also very disappointing to hear v8 is lacking. More, I have deleted v7. Why shouldn't I have done so?! 1Password has historically been a super thoroughly developed piece of software/enterprise. Why shouldn't I expect it to be "complete"? Sheesh. Rhetorical questions, by the way. ;)
And to be clear, I make great use of backups including using TimeMachine on each computer so getting v7 isn't an issue. Having to do so is.

While I have a couple solutions I still wonder about the 1Password data/vault still on my system. What to do with the old stuff?

My sole aim here was to provide any possible help for you to move forward, as per your original issue statement.

Ultimately you'll determine which products and solutions are best for your needs.

... if you are using the subscription version of v7.

  • Hi @tlance:

Were you able to get your data imported back into 1Password? Let me know!

    Thanks for checking!
Being the lazy SOB that I am I just started with 1P v8 where I left off and when the "new" logins were needed just fired up Enpass and copied/pasted creds into site/forum/whatever and then added to 1P. When a tech support guy (now retired) one of my mantras was "sometimes lo-tech is best". :D

On behalf of Jack, I'm happy to hear that you were able to migrate back to 1Password. I like your mantra. 😄
