I thought I had received previous version from there. I'm a long term user on macOS and iOS and this has changed, so I may be behind. v7 is on the App Store

1Password Version: 8

  • Hello @1PusernameWith20char! 👋

1Password 8 for Mac isn't currently available in the Mac App Store. Instead, you can download the app directly through our website:

If your subscription is through Apple, you can still download the app directly from our website, and your subscription will carry over. There's no need to change your billing information. Please let me know if you run into any issues with installing 1Password 8 from our website and I'll be happy to help further. 😊

    Is that a permanent change?

  • @1PusernameWith20char

I don't have a definite answer to share at the moment, but we're certainly keeping the door open to the idea and we're always interested to learn how we can best meet your needs. Could you please provide me with a little context on why you'd like to see 1Password 8 in the Mac App Store vs downloading it directly from the website?

I look forward to hearing from you. 😊

Because with the App Store I get notified that an update is available and only a couple of clicks are required. Downloading is more involved. I support my two computers and one or two of my wife's. I think my current app v7 came from the store and it was very confusing that v8 wasn't there. I went through hoops to switch from downloading 1P to using the App Store trying to sort out what I had purchased and when. I think I purchased a license for v7 and then a subscription and now it's changing again?

I think we're paying via the App Store and the app is free, so not sure why everything isn't transacted via the App Store. I have paid and subscribed numerous times for 1P, so may be confused about my exact status.

As a long time Mac user I appreciate that we can still install apps without the App Store and that developers can benefit from that.

Although I'm not concerned I would think many would be uncomfortable with going outside the store. We have to get the iOS version from the App Store. Why have two different policies?

  • Hey @1PusernameWith20char

I'd be happy to help clarify those points.

On iOS there is no non-App Store distribution channel. Developers cannot offer apps directly. If you want to sell an iOS app it has to be sold through the App Store. The same is not true for Mac apps.

If you have an active subscription for 1Password, regardless of where it is through (Apple, Google, or us directly), then 1Password 8 is included with that. There is no additional charge, and your subscription will continue to be billed through whoever you signed up through, regardless of where you download the app. You do not need to change your billing information.

The same is true with 1Password 8.

Nope; not changing again. As long as you have an active subscription then you're all set and can download 1Password 8. The installer will clean up the existing 1Password 7 app, and then v8 will update automatically from there. When an update is installed, you'll get a small notification at the bottom of the app to restart the app in order to complete the update.

    I hope that helps!

    Ben
