So do we have to uninstall the App Store version (7.9.4) before installing 1Password 8?

1Password Version: 7.9.4
Extension Version: Not Provided
OS Version: macOS 10.15.7

  • Hello @JRok77! 👋

There's no need to first uninstall 1Password 7, the 1Password 8 installer will take care of everything for you. You can find our guide on how to update to 1Password 8 here: Upgrade to 1Password 8 for Mac

    I hope that helps. 😊

Why do I need to setup 1Password 8 again if I already have 1Password 7.x? This doesn't seem like a great user experience.

  • Hi @thanirs:

1Password 8 is an entirely new app, and since it behaves slightly differently, we wanted to make sure upgrading to 1Password 8 was a choice made explicitly, rather than an auto-update to 1Password 7.

The installer seems to have left a zipped file of 1Password7 in the Applications folder. Any particular reason? Can I toss it? It's sort of annoying to have now three 1Password entities in the Applications folder, the 1Password app (v.8.8.0), 1Password for Safari (! another 184MB) and 1Password 7.app.zip.

  • Hey @jsegel

Yes, you can remove the zip file. It's just a copy of the previous app. We zip it up on installation to prevent unintended situations. Both 1Password and 1Password for Safari would indeed be in the Applications folder.

Nice, thanks. Why is the Safari extension so huge and living in the Apps folder? It doesn't bundle into Safari or Library for it somewhere? No big deal, just wondering.
