V8 Missing Ability to Create New "Tag"

Possibly I just can't find the right location to create a new Tag as I'm still learning my way around V8. I have read that the ability to create Tags was missing during the beta phase, has it found its way back into the latest version?

If not, it means that I will have to revert to V7, create additional tags, edit any as needed, and then reinstall V8.

  • Hey @Homer:

To create a new tag in the 1Password 8 app, locate an item you'd like to create a new tag for and select Edit. Under the heading "tags", select + Add tag to create a new tag.

I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

    Hello,
In 1password V8 I miss the possibility to edit tags.
In V7 it was possible to long click (or double click) the tag to edit it or create a new subtag. Now if I want to add a new subtag I have to write the full path manually. Is there a workaround I am missing?

Can you right-click on it from the sidebar and edit as needed? It sounds as if you are looks for something like autocomplete? If so, once you add a tag it will be suggested when attempting to add it to another item. As to generating a new tag, it appears that you would need to type your path again. I was unable to find a way to add a tag and it remain in edit mode ready for additional information. I would be happy to file this as a feature request for you.

In V7 it was possible to manually edit the tag with keyboard and I could add a new tag by simply adding /new-tag to the full path.
Note: by /new-tag I mean the new tag name, not a command.
In V8 it is not possible anymore. The only option I have if I right click on tag or on sidebar, is to delete it.

  • Rename is coming. It is within the nightlies.

Let me explain V7 procedure to add/rename tags, feature missing in V8.
Step 1: I double click on tag, in Italian "Etichette". A cursor appears allowing me to edit the full path.

Before editing, the tags are shown as follows:

Step 2: I add the new tag /1111 with keyboard to the existing one 0000 to obtain the full path 0000/1111

Step 3: I save modifications, and everything is updated as follows:

This is no longer possible in V8.

Thanks for the screenshots, I understand what you're trying to accomplish and you're correct that doesn't currently work the same way in 1Password 8 for Mac. As Tommy mentioned, editing tags is just over the horizon (in fact, it's currently in the: 1Password for Mac Beta). I'd recommend double checking that you have automatic updates turned on so you can get this feature as soon as it's ready!

In the meantime, adding a new tag with the full path is still the best way to create nested tags. Though once you've created it for a single item you can then drag other items into that nested tag on the sidebar to apply it, depending on how many items you're organizing this may save you some time.

Thanks for your patience. I'm also looking forward to this feature coming to 1Password 8. 🙂
