Login dropdown needs an "x" or a "cancel" button

You can see in the two screen captures attached that when I am creating a new pw on Paypal and enter an unacceptable version of the new pw I cannot read the error message the site presents to me. If there were a way to clear the 1PW button I would be able to complete the task.
