Edit Tags
Greetings,
I'm testing 1Password with the potential to move from another Manager. I have completed an import but the tags did not import in a helpful way since I see no way to expand the panes on the website to view them as they were imported. I cannot find a way to edit the tags in either the website or the PC app. How can I do this? I have looked at the Knowledgebase and the YouTube channel but I do not see any way to do it. I have also been unable to find a manual.
If there is no way to edit tags (which would surprise me), how do I mass delete the items that were imported so I can reimport them after editing the .CSV file? Again, I cannot see a way to do this.
Thanks in advance,
Tracey

Hey @tms029 !
Actually, it is not possible to edit tags on 1Password.com or in 1Password 8 for Windows.
But there is a workaround to edit tags with the help of 1Password 7 for Windows. Here, it is possible to edit tags.
1Password 7 for Windows0 -
v8 is a completely new product. And some features are missing which are present in v7.
I would suggest using v7 just to edit tags, and after you are done switch back to v8. 😉
But it is not possible to use both versions in parallel.

This is getting too complex. If I can't edit the tags or remove and re-import my items, I think there's a serious lack of features. I guess I'll just stick with my current solution.
Thanks for the help!

May I ask from which solution you tried to import your data? Normally, the import should create the correct tags, so that you don't have to edit them. 🤔
Maybe you could try the MRC-Converter-Suite from @MrC to get your export into the correct format to get a better import result?

They came from LastPass. I can manually edit them if I can get them out but I'm not prepared to delete 1200+ entries one at a time. When they imported, they added a top level folder, obscuring the usable part of the tag name on the website. It's less of a problem in the app but it is still one layer of hierarchy that is redundant in 1Password's approach to grouping.
I understand that you theoretically could delete a vault but I imported them into the private vault and there appears to be no way to delete/edit it short of deleting my whole account and starting over.
All of these shortcomings just point to a solution that is feature incomplete and, since I only have 14 days (11 now, trying to get this resolved) to try the app I am concerned that more issues will come up that will be complete deal breakers after I have migrated.
I'm rather disappointed, to say the least, but removing feature from applications seems to be the "new normal" for software developers these days, but I digress.

Did you read this article already?
Move your data from LastPass to 1PasswordBut I don't know if it helps in your case... 🤔

I stared there before I imported, thanks.
As I said, after import all I see on the website is the top level tag.

Hi @tms029, thank you for these questions, and I'm sorry to learn of the trouble with tags so far. I'd love to help. 👋
Firstly, I just want to let you know that we wouldn't want a technical snag to take up your trial period. I'll be happy to connect you with our concierge team to see what we can do for you on that front.
We recognize that the ability to edit tags from 1Password 8 will be useful. As @denalb mentioned, 1Password 8 is a completely new app, built from the ground up, so there were a few things that didn't make the initial release (but which we're working on). You can expect that 1Password 8 (which already contains a number of features not present in version 7) will continue to get more robust and feature-rich as we go.
I'd agree that normally the easiest way to handle this is to use 1Password 7 to edit the tags. However, you also asked:
how do I mass delete the items that were imported so I can reimport them after editing the .CSV file?
If I understand correctly, it sounds from your first post like you may be able to fix the issue by editing that .CSV file - that's great. With that established, our Windows specialist team (of which I'm a member) can help you reset your existing 1Password data so that you can import the fresh dataset. If you can send us a short email at support+windows@1Password.com (with a link to this discussion so we know it's you), we'll be happy to provide customized steps and get that going. 👍
Again, my apologies for the inconvenience you've had so far. We'll be happy to smooth the path from here.

1Password.com does not have expanding tags hierarchies. The entire tag string is shown. I have no idea why this isn't available there, but speculate that fewer users routinely use the web version of 1Password, so its feature set is minimal.
1Password 8 for desktop does have expandable Tags hierarchies, but does the Windows app does not yet have the ability to edit the tags in the sidebar.
Can you explain what you mean by "When they imported, they added a top level folder". Your tags should be shown in the hierarchy as per your LastPass data, like this:
Maybe you meant that you have a top-level folder you'd like removed from the hierarchy across all your items?
