1PW 8 in App Store soon?
Hi,
I've obtained my last few versions of 1Password from the App Store on macOS (been a user since version 3.8). I understand that 8 is now available, and more importantly, the primary supported version. Still not happy about Electron as the dev decision as a security specialist, but OK enough on my use cases for risk.
Anyway - I'd like to get it via the App Store still to ensure macOS keeps things updated for me, but I only see version 7 available. Will 8 be in the App Store for download anytime soon?
1Password Version: 7.9.5
Extension Version: Not Provided
OS Version: macOS 12.4

Hello @mboltz802! 👋
1Password 8 for Mac isn't currently available in the Mac App Store. Instead, you can download the app directly through our website:
If your subscription is through Apple, you can still download the app directly from our website, and your subscription will carry over. There's no need to change your billing information.

I don't have an answer to that but I do know that we’re currently focused on the website/direct download version of 1Password. We're always interested to learn how we can best meet your needs. Could you please provide me with a little more context on why you'd like to see 1Password 8 in the Mac App Store vs downloading it directly from the website? You mentioned updates as one potential reason and I'd love for you to try the amazing new updater that is built-in to 1Password 8. It'll keep you updated to the latest version of 1Password silently and automatically. 😊

I don't quite understand this thread. If I download 1PW8 from the website and I am subscribed to 1PW7 through the Mac App Store, will the subscription be charged through the Mac App Store or directly to my credit card? Do I have to cancel the App Store subscription? Is there a white paper that walks me thought these steps?

I'm sorry for the confusion. If your subscription is through Apple, you can still download the app directly from our website, and your subscription will carry over. There's no need to change your billing information and you'll continue to be billed through Apple.
I hope that helps. 🙂

I am a long-time user of 1Password. I am using the subscription to keep my Macs/iOS devices all in sync. On my work Mac I am only able to install 3rd party applications from the Mac App Store. Until 1Password is available in the Mac App Store, I am unable to upgrade to 1Password 8. It is beyond me why a company forces their customers to use a subscription to keep their devices in sync and then does not release an application that can be used on all devices (including fairly standard corp setups). So, I'd like to politely ask again when a Mac App Store version will become available?
And I'd like to remind folks working for 1Password of what your CEO has written on the company website" "We truly have something special at 1Password. Founders who are here to listen to and help our customers. Leaders who truly care about their teams..." I honestly don't see the "listen and help" anymore!

Hi folks,
I don't have anything new to add about Mac App Store availability of 1Password 8 for Mac. Our 1Password for Safari extension is available there, but for now we're focused on delivering the 1Password 8 desktop app directly through our website. If you’d like to be notified of any changes in this regard, please subscribe using this form:

Our leadership team is monitoring the signups for notifications. I hope that helps!

Given that’s it’s months and months, and 1Password are clearly abandoning the Mac App Store; what are some good alternatives to 1Password ?

Now the company is trying to gauge interest via some obscure signup link - and when that underperforms they will use it as justification to say that the MAS is not suitable for them.

I'd prefer the safe, automatic update via the Mac App Store. No clicking on a link in a web site needed.
For me it is not a problem to check if such a link is reliable, but for my wife it is. If she downloads a fake 1Password, it is also my safety that is compromised.0 -
I understand the concern. The safest way to download 1Password is directly from our official website. We have a guide available here:

I hope that helps!
