Help Migrating from 1P 6 to 1P8 Stopping at 7 on the Way

So far I have installed 1P 7 and moved my data from 1P version 6 on my MacBook, I now need to add another MacBook. I am confused on the order of the steps to get there.

Do I need to upgrade all the way to 8 before I do anything with the second MacBook?

When I do want to install on my second MacBook, do I need to go through the exact same steps, installing 7 then moving to 8?

Any other tips you can offer would be helpful, I'm a bit lost on when and what to do.
