The app does not start up automatically and autofill again no longer works.

I had this problem a month or so ago, contacted support, then I figured out how to fix it, but I’ve forgotten the solution. A week later the whole problem has recurred.

So there are two problems:
First, 1Password for Safari does not open at startup (it’s checked in the 1Password preferences so it should open automatically, and I assume that so should 1Password for Safari. )

Second, autofill does not work.

  1. Note first that I keep both the 1Password and 1Password for Safari icons permanently in my dock.
  2. I restarted my Mac. During startup, the 1Password icon in the dock bounces, then stops, and the app does not open, nor does 1Password for Safari. As I said above, auto startup is checked in the 1Password preferences so it should open automatically, and I assume that so should 1Password for Safari.
  3. So I started 1Password manually, then logged in. 1Password For Safari still has not started.
  4. So I click the dock icon for 1Password for Safari to start it.
  5. That opens the window titled “Start using 1Password for Safari”
  6. I click the button “Open Safari preferences” in that window. Nothing happens.
  7. So I go to Safari preferences manually and click the Extensions button.
  8. In the App Store extensions, I find 1Password for Safari. Its button that appears is “Open”. I click the “Open” button and it performs step 4 above. In other words, I’m going around in circles and getting nowhere.

The problem had been fixed but it happened again as I said above. What is going on? This whole process should be transparent to me. The app and extension should start up automatically when I start my Mac, but it doesn’t. And as described, 1Password for Safari doesn’t seem to work at all. All that is left for me is to look up my passwords manually.
