how long does it take data from version 7 to migrate to version 8?

Says "Waiting for data to be moved. don't quit this app." Has been 20 minutes so far.

    Is 1Password 7 open and unlocked? We're investigating a situation where 1Password 8 may not start migrating your data if 1Password 7 isn't open and unlocked. Quit the 1Password 8 installer (it won't result in any data loss). Then follow these steps:

    1. Open and unlock 1Password 7.
    2. Confirm that you can see your items.
    3. Leave 1Password 7's main window open.
    4. Run the 1Password 8 installer again while 1Password 7 is open.

    Let me know how you get on with that!

    I don't at all mean to be hijacking this thread, but I'm having the same issue. I tried the four steps you outlined above and it did not work for me. I'm on a MacBook Pro (16", 2019), running macOS Monterey 12.6.

    I'm sorry that the steps didn't help. When you open 1Password 7 do you see a standalone "Primary" vault? You can check for a Primary vault on your Mac by doing the following (these instructions are only for 1Password 7, 1Password 8 doesn't support Primary vaults):

    1. Open and unlock 1Password for Mac.
    2. Click on the Vaults option in the menu bar at the top of your screen.
    3. Click on Switch to Vault.
    4. Do you see a Primary vault listed?

    If you do then please follow the steps in this guide to migrate the items from the Primary vault to your account: Migrate your existing 1Password data from standalone vaults to a 1Password account

    Once the migration is complete try installing 1Password 8 again. Let me know if you run into any issues. 🙂

    Thanks for the reply. I've got things going, but still have to check operations on other devices. And I think I have duplicated logins by importing another vault which evidently had quite a few duplicates. I tried several things, but, if I remember correctly, what worked for me was exporting the "cloud" vault from 1P7, installing 1P8, and then importing the file exported from 1P7 into 1P8. I'm one of those people who can't wait to install a new update until it's been out there a bit. Gotta have it now. I give 1Password a plug every chance I get. I been with you guys quite a few years-don't know how many for sure-and I'm planning to stay!
