1Password 8 hijacks CMD-+

When I press Command and Plus (+) in a browser with the intent to zoom in on the page, instead of the page zooming in 1Password Quick access opens (or biometric auth if 1P is locked). On some pages, nothing happens at all. Here on 1password.community new post page it autofills my user name in the Title field, something I haven't seen before on other pages.

This has been happening for a very long time, I think since I got on the version 8 beta many months ago. It also doesn't matter which browser I use.

1Password Version: 1Password for Mac 8.9.4, 80904012, on BETA channel
Extension Version: 2.3.7
OS Version: macOS 10.15.7
Browser:_ Firefox, Chrome, Brave, Vivaldi

  • Hi @benregn:

Are you using a US QWERTY keyboard layout, or something else? Let me know, and I'll be able to investigate further.

My physical keyboard is an ISO one. The language layout I type on is Icelandic QWERTY layout but this also happens if I switch to a US QWERTY layout.

@Jack.P_1P Is there anything else I can do to help?

  • Hi @benregn:

Thanks for following up. We're aware of an issue where certain keys may not behave as expected when using an ISO keyboard layout. If you change your 1Password Quick Access shortcut (Preferences > General) to a different keybinding, does that improve your state of play? Let me know.

I already changed the shortcut for Quick Access a long while back (to crtl+shift+cmd+L). That has not helped at all.

  • Thanks for your reply, @benregn, sorry to hear the issue persists. If you haven't already, I'd also recommend changing the keyboard shortcut for Autofill. Since that action will trigger Quick Access when it doesn't detect any fields to fill, it's sometimes the case that two separate shortcuts bring up Quick Access.

Let me know if this helps!

@andrew.l_1P Thanks for taking the time to reply.

The shortcut for Autofill is currently CMD+\ (Command and backslash). I don't know if that's the default one because I can't remember if I've changed it. I changed it just in case to ctrl+opt+shift+cmd+A. That seems to have done it! Now it's possible to zoom in a browser using cmd++ 😄

  • Excellent, glad to hear that worked, @benregn!

+ \ is indeed the default for Autofill, and we've seen some reports of these defaults conflicting with non-US keyboard layouts so I'll add the details of your use case to that internal investigation. 👍🏻

Appreciate you bringing this to our attention and if anything comes up in the future, you know where to find us. 😊
