Why is 1Password 8 often, but not always, auto-filling the same wrong credentials for multiple different websites?

1Password Version: 8.8.0
Extension Version: 2.3.7
OS Version: 12.5.1
Browser:_ Safari

    I'm also seeing this behavior.

  • Hi @RexRay / @corylogan:

Thanks for letting us know about this! We've recently sorted the issue that causes this in 1Password for Mac 8.9.4. To resolve this completely, look in your 1Password items for an item that's been linked to your browser. It'll look something like this:

Once you find the item, edit it, and remove the link to your browser, and this should no longer occur.

Let me know how you get on with that!

Interesting! That seems to have fixed the issue for me, but there is a caveat. One of the places I'm most able to reproduce this issue is on sites using basic auth. Every time I try to use basic auth it prompts me to update the entry, which adds that linked app back in. I can choose "Fill once" instead, which doesn't seem to have this side effect. However, I imagine you'll have a lot of folks running into this, particularly with basic auth.

Separate issue: 1Password seems kind of sluggish when trying to populate the basic auth fields. It takes literally 5 seconds. I have about 500 items in my 1Password (many of which probably need pruning).

Here's a good way to test the issue out: You can use httpbin's basic auth example. The last two in the path are the user/pass. But, if you ever update the login as prompted to do, you'll get that link back. Fill once seems to work, but people will certainly fall into this trap.

    Thanks!

  • Hi @corylogan:

Thanks for following up, and sharing those additional details! I was able to replicate the behavior you're experiencing with linking to basic auth, so I've filed an internal issue to see if we can get that sorted out.
