Support MacOS non-root install of 1password

I would like to install 1password into ~/Applications instead of /Applications, but if I try to do that 1Password.app refuses to start. It gives an error message and says it must be moved to /Applications.

Would it be possible to allow non-root installs? If it helps, I'm a single user of this computer, so I don't think it would pose conflicts to install it in my user home directory and run it from there.

  • Hi @moozy:

Great question. For our integration between 1Password for Mac and 1Password in your browser to work properly, it's necessary for 1Password for Mac to be in the /Applications folder. Given this, we require 1Password for Mac to be installed in /Applications. Thanks for bringing this up!

Can it just show a warning instead of refusing to start if it’s not in that directory? I’m fine with extensions not working. I mostly use it for SSH keys.
