why are www entries auto saved in 1password?

When I make an entry into 1password for a new login, I fill out all the info and give it a name. But I find 1password also records an entry for the website, using www.website with the password but not the user id. This is duplicative of my efforts and just seems to muck up the vault. Is there a reason I am unaware of why this is done?
