Password generation bug
If I need to change a password, I open the 1Password extension and click the "+ Generate Password" button.
In the example I encountered today, the generated password fulfilled the site's requirements immediately. I clicked Save & Copy and proceeded to change the password. The VERY odd thing is that the resulting password item that was created was NOT the same password as I saw in the generator.
So the password I saw in the generator was never actually used. What's going on? It used to be that the password you see in the generator would be the same one you actually saved and copied when you clicked the button. That does not seem to be the case anymore.
And what's more, though I specified Firefox as my browser below, I have verified that Chrome behaves absolutely identically. The password actually used when you copy a generated password won't be the one you saw.

Hi @Jack.P_1P :
I'm using the 1Password extension, the legacy one, since I do not have (or want) an account. A screenshot is attached, showing the button that I click. Thanks!

Thank you for the additional clarification. I can reproduce the same issue, the password saved and the password copied to the clipboard should be the same. The only outlier is the password visually displayed. I'm sorry for the inconvenience and I've reported the issue to our developers.
That being said, the classic extension hasn't been updated since 2019 and we're now focused on the modern 1Password in the browser extension which would require a 1Password account. I recommend sending an email to support+tradein@1password.com to discuss the options available to you. 🙂

Thanks @Dave_1P,
Update: I have confirmed that the problem is NOT specific to any browser extension. The problem is a bug in 1Password Mini.
If I:
- Generate a password by clicking on 1Password Mini without a browser running
- Click Save & Copy
- Paste the resulting password somewhere
Then the password will not match the password seen in the generator.

That's so odd. I say that because I'm reasonably certain I only encountered this problem a lot more recently than 2019. I was hopeful that it had somehow been introduced by one of the minor updates to the 1Password 7 app, and could therefore be fixed by another such update.
If that were to be the case, I am hopeful it could still have a chance of being fixed? But until then, I have found a workaround: simply editing the item and regenerating the password within the 1Password 7 app itself. That's a little more manual, but it works as expected.
Thanks for your offer, but looking at some of the other posts with changes of longstanding behavior between 1Password 7 and 8, I'm not sure I can do that. To be honest, as someone who has used 1Password since version 3, I have a very hard time wrapping my head around the workflow of the new extension, which I can basically preview on Safari, even while on 1Password 7. I know you have a basic video on it, but it's nowhere near detailed enough for those of us used to the old way of doing things. :)

Thank you for the reply. You're correct that the same behaviour can be seen in 1Password mini and I've added your report to the internal work item for the issue. As mentioned, the password saved and the password copied to the clipboard should be the same in both the classic extension and 1Password mini, only the password that is visually displayed is different.
If that were to be the case, I am hopeful it could still have a chance of being fixed?
With the launch of 1Password 8 for Mac, 1Password 7 for Mac is no longer supported and will only receive important security updates. We recommend that you update to 1Password 8 as soon as you can.

I'm sorry that you ran into trouble when trying 1Password for Safari. Can you tell me a little more about the difficulties that you ran into when using 1Password for Safari? I would be happy to help. This guide explains how to use 1Password in the browser in some more detail:
